October is all good for Pegasus AC!The past month has saw a fine blend of results for the club’s runners with a trip to Poland and championship age group wins and more worthy of a mention! Chris Denton flew the flag for the British Isles at the recent Poznan Marathon held in Poland recently. It is the biggest marathon in the country with 2400 runners competing in it this year. He managed a season’s best time of 2:58:37 to come home a brilliant 110th and with it be 1st British/Irish finisher home. A good end to the year for Chris and is now deserved of a couple of weeks off you would all agree? It has also been confirmed recently that Peter Bell has won the Veteran 50 category in the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association Grand Prix with a gaggle of good results throughout the year cementing him the title and with it 21st overall and added to his 5th position at the International North Pole Marathon earlier in the year makes him the pride of Portstewart!. Jason Wilson has also won the junior title in the same series and managed a very striking result in finishing 6th overall to cap off a fine year for the young Ballymoney runner. This also adds to his recent nomination in the ‘Junior Sportsman of the year’ category at the soon to be held Ballymoney Sports Awards. Pegasus AC wishes him all the best and congratulate him of the honour of being short listed for this prize. The most recently held cross country race on the local scene was the Bobby Rea Memorial races held at UU (Jordanstown) last Saturday saw the ‘Marathon man’ turned coach Harry Reilly competing. The fairly large field was filled to the brim with talent, but Harry put in a plucky performance to finish 50th overall in 31:45. French Pegasus member Alexander Huno also ran a very strong race, with 15th (28:24) proving his metal against the best of NI talent. Visit www.pegasusac.org.uk for more information and don’t forget about the cross country being held at UU, Coleraine this Saturday (see last weeks paper or our website for more details). |
