Pegasus runners produce great form at ‘Riada 5’Pegasus athletes made up a good number of the 144 strong field taking part in the Springwell AC promoted Riada 5 mile road race based at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on July 27th. 3 men and 4 ladies made up the successful Pegasus charge at one of the club’s most local races! First home for the club was Geoff Warke, the sprightly Veteran who has now been first Vet 50 runner in the past number of races and he continued this trend with an excellent time of 30:46 to grab 23rd overall. Not too far down the road was our ‘North Pole King’ Peter Bell (who earlier in the year finished an excellent 5th in the North Pole International marathon), who managed a time of 32:58 to finish within the top3 Vet 50 runners. Next man for Pegasus was a welcome comeback road race for Colm McIlfatrick, who managed an unexpectedly fast time of 35:51 to finish well in the top half of the strong field. The first lady home out of the Pegasus crew was Linda Gillen, who ran an excellent race to finish 5th Female Open runner and end up with a time 37:31 (just outside her personal best of 37:01). Cathy Barr won the Veteran 45 category at another race to continue her rich form with a personal best time of 39:39. Tess McComb had a race to forget to say the least! The phrase ‘a frog in your throat’ would be changed to ‘have you a fly in your throat’ for Tess with 1 mile to go! It led to Tess loosing a number of places trying to dislodge the creature from her throat, but she still managed to finish in 40:29. Lorna Stynes also put in a good run to beat her 5 mile best and manage to cross the line in 43:07. Congratulations to all Pegasus runners and a thanks to Springwell AC for organising another well run race! |
