Big Pegasus AC presence at Belfast Marathon extravaganza!

Bank holiday Monday saw the biggest ever ‘Deep RiverRock’ Belfast City Marathon, with over 14,000 participants turning up to this great occasion.  Chris Denton and ‘Arctic king’ Paul Gray; completing his goal of 5 marathons in 2 years took part in the whole event. For the first time ever, Pegasus sent 2 all female teams to this race to compete in the Relay marathon section (along with nearly 1,700 other teams). With the addition of ‘Arctic king’ Peter Bell running for his church, Jason Wilson running for his local Dalriada school team and Ralph and Nicola Thom also taking part in the relay, this race saw 14 Pegasus AC runners on show.

The Pegasus AC Ladies 2 team of Lorna Stynes, Shirley Park (running 2 legs equalling 10.6 miles), Joan Trengrove and Ruth Dunn managed 440th position in a time of 3:52:16.  Pegasus AC Ladies 1 consisted of Sonia Knox, Tess McComb, Linda Gillen, Gillian McMullan and Debbie McLaughlin.  This team managed a creditable 4:14:14 to cap off a great day for all Pegasus ladies.  Chris Denton managed 3:01:50 to grab 54th placing and Paul Gray managed 3:58:36 to cap off a remarkable few months for the Dervock man.  Congratulations to all those taking part and I hope another big Pegasus gathering can be reported upon in the near future!

The intrepid Jason was also competing in Wales the day before the marathon in the 2nd round of the British Fell / Mountain Running Championships at Llangynhafal situated in the north of the country.  The 4.8 mile route included 1500ft of climbing and was classified as a ‘short’ race (use are open to your own thoughts of that title)!  Despite the top class field which was assembled, Jason managed 92nd overall out of 220 runners in a time of 42:12.  This was his best British result to date, and protected his 3rd Under 23 position for the time being with 2 rounds remaining.  The next round is in Wales again but A-Levels will stop him from competing there!
