NI honour among Pegasus achievements of previous weeks! The previous few weeks have seen Pegasus AC notch up a number of marvellous results; with our runners far and wide over no less than TWO continents! Peter Bell, Paul Gray, Jason Wilson, Michael Henry, Ralph Thom and Tess McComb upholding club honour over a number of very different races. We will begin with an update on the arctic kings Peter and Paul. Having completed their adventure of a life time at the North Pole Marathon, they were back into regular club training merely a week after their amazing exploits. Peter came home in a remarkable 5th position in the run and bike events, telling me that he only had 2 30 second stops throughout the whole event! Paul managed an excellent top half finish (21st) which he was thoroughly pleased with despite an over exuberant first half to the race! The 44 worthy adversaries proved to be a truly international field, with 21 countries represented. This fact only enhances how great these two results are! Both would like to thank those who have given to their relevant charities (Age Concern and NSPCC). We at Pegasus AC would just like to congratulate both on their successes and say that both are a credit to their club and town. Next up on the honours list is 18 year old Jason from Ballymoney, who has achieved his FOURTH NI call up to take part in the Knockdhu International at Larne this Saturday. Jason is going into this race near to the best form he has produced over the past 3 years, with a 24th overall and 1st junior place at Rostrevor (part of the popular Hill and Dale mountain running series) sealing his place. His primary aim is to be 1st NI runner home, but will come up against stiff competition from the 2 Omagh runners also included in the line-up. His ultimate goal would be to beat some of the Scottish / Welsh runners who travel over for this special race. Watch this space! Michael Henry has taken part in 2 Hill and Dale races since I previously wrote, with 96th at Tullymore Mountain Centre and 92nd at Rostrevor out of 160+ fields which is a credit to him despite his injury woes! Ralph Thom was also in action at the newly established Titanic Quarter 10k on Sunday 15th April. He managed to complete the quite challenging course in 50:18 and set himself up for a summer of road racing to follow! Last but not at all least; Tess McComb was in London for her debut marathon. The 38,000+ field provided an unforgettable atmosphere which will live long in Tess’s memory. In unseasonably warm temperatures (20o), she managed to uphold a commanding pace to achieve a 4:40:15 clocking to give her 4045th female runner and achieve a top half finish! Overall, we would like to congratulate all Pegasus runners on their achievements to date and hope for many more on our 25th anniversary! |
