Pegasus junior produces great Glenariff result!Last Saturday saw Pegasus AC junior Jason Wilson attempt the Ballymena Runners promoted Glenariff Mountain race held in the picturesque Waterfoot village near Cushundall. The race is famous for giving away a bag of ‘Glens of Antrim’ potatoes for all those who enter the race, which led to record numbers this year of 71 brave souls! The weather leading up to the race was atrocious to say the least with heavy winds battering those warming up; generating many questions to the Irish rugby fans who were running in the event! But, a lull in the weather gave some respite to the runners, and they set off on the 6 mile trek which included an 1100ft climb up Glenariff Glen at 1.00pm on the dot! In a superb time of 47:54, NI Senior international Eddie Hanna (Mourne Runners) crossed the line 1st followed closely by his team-mates Stephen Cunningham and Gary Bailey, who managed to subsequently give Mourne Runners the team prize. Jason managed an inspired result to come in 15th in 52:38, one of his best overall results to date and this bodes well for him achieving NI junior selection AGAIN for the Knockdhu International in April. Watch this space!! Thanks must go to Ballymena Runners for holding another excellent race with excellent marshalling, great spot prizes and a grand buffet afterwards. |
